Sooke, BC

The handsome coastal village of Sooke is located on the south western tip of Vancouver Island, 30 minutes by car from Victoria, the capital city of the province of British Columbia. Surrounded by ocean and temperate rainforest, Sooke boasts one of the mildest climates in Canada. It also offers easy access to pristine wilderness, making the village an increasingly popular destination for adventures in eco-tourism. Among the many outdoor activities, the most popular may be fishing. Sooke offers recreational salmon and halibut charters, and experienced guides for freshwater fly fishing. Whale watching for the three resident Orca pods is another premier attraction.

Sooke also deserves billing as an art colony. Early August marks the Sooke Fine Arts Show, the largest juried show on Vancouver Island. Visit the artists in person at the show or during one of the many studio tours that operate throughout the summer. Finally, dining in Sooke is an exciting experience.
